Oral health day

20.03.2020

March 20 - International Oral Health Day

The decision to hold World Oral Health Day was made by the World Dental Federation (FDI) at the World Dental Congress (AWDC) in Dubai in 2007. Since 2013, this day has been held on March 20.

World Oral Health Day is a day proclaiming the importance of oral health for people of all ages in all countries of the world. The main objectives of this day are to increase awareness and join forces to reduce dental morbidity.

Many chronic diseases are directly related to oral health, primarily cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis and diabetes.

To keep your teeth healthy, you must follow these guidelines:

  • Brush your teeth 2 times a day (in the morning after breakfast, in the evening after dinner). Children under 3 years of age ̵ after each meal.
  • Use fluoride-containing toothpaste to clean children’s teeth. The amount of paste for children under the age of 12 months. - a small smear, 13-18 months. - rice grain, from 18 months. - a pea, from 6 years - two peas.
  • Use floss (dental floss) to clean the contact surfaces of the child’s adjacent teeth.
  • Pay attention to the role of nutrition in caries prevention! Include in your diet: dairy products (especially hard cheese), seafood, brown bread, greens, fresh vegetables and fruits, green tea, nuts - as the main sources of vitamins and trace elements necessary for the full construction of hard tooth tissues.
  • Do not accustom children to sweets, it is difficult to get rid of bad eating habits!

enlightenedFollow the WHO recommendations for daily intake of sugar (the total amount of sugar in all drinks and foods is taken into account), for children of age: limit sugar intake to 20-30 g per day, since plaque microorganisms produce tooth-damaging acids from sugar.

  • It is advisable for children under 3 years old not to give sweets, cakes and other sweets at all, not to add sugar to tea, porridge, milk, etc.
  • Frequency of food intake is also important for maintaining healthy teeth. If a child constantly eats something in small portions (then he will take a bun, then a cookie, then a pie), the conditions for abundant deposits of plaque arise in the mouth, the microorganisms of which cause tooth decay. It is better that children know their main meals (for example, breakfast, lunch, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner) and do not break this schedule.
  • Acidic foods and drinks that cause erosion — acidic dissolution of tooth enamel — are harmful to teeth. Children sour fruits, juices, marinades, etc. can be given only in small quantities.
  • Create a habit for children to finish eating any solid vegetables and fruits (apples, carrots, turnips, etc.) that cleanse teeth from plaque and sticky food debris.
  • Children with early onset and active tooth decay should completely stop taking any sugary foods and drinks.

On World Oral Health Day, we especially remind our patients of the measures for the prevention of dental caries and hand out reminders to all our patients.

REMEMBER, CHILDREN'S EDUCATION OF HABITS OF HEALTHY NUTRITION WILL PROVIDE HIM HEALTHY TEETH AND A BEAUTIFUL SMILE FOR LIFE!
